Welcome to Citizens to Preserve North Dakota’s Property Rights
WHAT WE STAND FOR
Protecting Property Rights
Measure 2 infringes on a landowner’s right to use their
personal property as they see fit.
Measure 2 violates our private property rights and limits the
ability of North Dakotans to make a living off their land.
Measure 2 will ban the harvesting of deer, elk, bison and
other game on certain private lands, and it will be the beginning of further
restrictions that will impede a landowner’s ability to provide and/or prohibit
any kind of game hunting access on his or her land.
Measure 2 would create a law in search of a problem that
does not currently exist.
Measure 2 is so poorly written that it’s a trial
lawyer’s dream. It will allow suits to be brought against landowners and
livestock operators across North Dakota. This will cost taxpayers and
landowners thousands of dollars.
Preserving All Hunting Traditions
Measure 2 is un-North Dakotan. Our state has a long history
of hunting and respect for the sport in all its forms. Measure 2 runs contrary
to this long tradition.
Measure 2 limits the freedom of North Dakota hunters to
choose where they hunt and whether they hunt on a game farm or not.
Measure 2 is not needed. North Dakota game farm operators
are few and they recognize that a quality hunting experience requires the same
conditions whether on a preserve or off – good terrain, challenging layout,
balanced animal populations and the ability to escape. The free market demands
this and it is provided by North Dakota game preserve operators.
Measure 2 is a Trojan Horse. If passed, Measure
2 will open the door to efforts that seek to ban trapping, bow hunting and even
some types of bird hunting.
Saving North Dakota from Animal Rights
Extremists
Measure 2 is supported by animal rights groups and
extremists (Humane Society of the United States and PETA). These groups openly
supported Measure 2 back in 2008 when it failed to get onto that year’s ballot.
Measure 2 is a stepping stone for out-of-state animal rights
extremists to push for even greater restrictions on hunting and ranching.
Measure 2 is a back door for out-of-state animal rights
extremists to get into North Dakota and start challenging the livestock
industry, including limits on-the-farm cattle slaughters and butcher
operations.
Measure 2 is an invitation for out-of-state animal rights
extremists to impose their radical agenda – piece-by-piece – on North Dakota
through litigation. They’ve done this and are doing this in other states.
The Humane Society of the United States and PETA are opposed
to hunting, ranching, the meat industry, even circuses and rodeos. PETA is so
radical, that in the past, the group has equated the livestock industry to the
Holocaust.
Well-Managed Game Preserves
Game farms are currently well regulated by the North Dakota
State Board of Animal Health (part of the North Dakota Department of
Agriculture) and the North Dakota Game and Fish Department.
North Dakota laws require game farm animals be raised in a
safe environment.
The typical private North Dakota game farm averages between
600 and 1200 acres. Animals are not corralled or tied up; they roam freely on
the farms.
Game producers raise healthy animals in a safe environment
and must monitor them closely in order to be in compliance with existing state
law.
Game producers attract much needed out-of-state money into
our rural areas.
Game producers do not guarantee users an animal harvest.
Game farms do provide a service to young
first-time hunters, elderly hunters who have difficulty walking and the
physically challenged – including disabled veterans.
